BMW 335i Cabrio

A BMW convertible has always been a desirable drop-top, and especially the 3 Series cabriolet draws a lot of attention. This sunseeker grabs the attention of the upwardly mobile trendsetters who are eager for flashy wheels that will make them look cool.

And the latest 3 Series cabriolet is no different. It is again a trendsetting and distinctive topless number. However, the big news on this model is the fact that it now comes with a retractable hard-top roof.

You will be forgiven if you see a 3 Series cabrio with the top up jetting pass you and mistake it for a coupe. Most of the car's design cues, such as the nose, are similar to that of its coupe sibling. Only if you see the side profile you'll notice the difference. The cabriolet version appears "flatter" and not as curvaceous as the coupe.

A tax rate that enrages Middle England

In this current boom, the super-rich are making such extraordinary fortunes that they are not just stoking the suspicion of the working class, but the well-paid middle classes, too. The battle lines in Britain’s class war are shifting: it is no longer Citizen Smith and the Tooting Popular Front agitating for change, but Mr and Mrs Smith and the Wimbledon Neighbourhood Watch scheme who are crying "Power to the People!"

University-educated men and women working hard and enjoying successful careers in public companies are finding themselves frozen out of swaths of the London property market by a new breed of wealth: hedge fund managers, private equity partners and investment bankers. There are signs of a new kind of fissure between the reasonably well-off and the absurdly wealthy – not a blue-collar/white-collar divide, but suit-and-tie versus open-necked shirt; not over how much you are paid, but how: are you someone who measures your earnings in salary or capital gains?

In this context, Nicholas Ferguson’s observation that many private equity executives are "paying less tax than a cleaning lady" has only played to the politics of middle-class envy.

Williams: Lewis is unique

Sir Frank Williams on Friday night described Formula One rookie sensation Lewis Hamilton as a unique talent.

The Williams team boss, who has won nine constructors' titles and secured seven drivers' crowns for the likes of Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve, claimed Hamilton's instant impact on the sport was unparalleled.

"In my opinion," Williams said of the 22-year-old McLaren driver. "I've never seen anyone arrive and be so successful so quickly. That is to say from his first race. It is quite remarkable. I am looking hard to find fault with him and he is very nice, which is quite unusual, too."

Williams, who has been in motor racing for almost 40 years, was asked if Hamilton reminded him of any other drivers in his long career.

"Nobody," he replied.

Who's to blame for dangerous subprime mortgages?

We've all been reading stories about the subprime mortgage meltdown for months, but a comprehensive study by the Reinvestment Fund, a nonprofit that works to stimulate growth in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, made the issue hit home.

A Philadelphia Inquirer front-page story on the study offered some heartbreaking cases of Philadelphians likely to lose their homes, and perhaps tumble into bankruptcy. It's a tragedy, an outrage.

To be precise, the TRF study was on predatory lending -- selling high-risk mortgages to people who cannot afford them. That's not quite the same as subprime mortgages, which are loans to people with poor credit. Not every subprime mortgage is predatory.

But most predatory loans are subprime mortgages.

The first homeowner described in the story bought a $66,900 house in 2003 with plans to fix it up and rent it out.

CURRENCIES: Euro Lower After Trichet; Yen Slumps As Carry Back In ...

The euro fell against the dollar on Thursday after the European Central Bank hiked its key interest rate by a quarter percentage point to 3.75% as expected and said rates are now "moderate" rather than "low." Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the Frankfurt-based ECB, which sets interest-rate policies in the 13 countries that use the euro, said rates remain "accommodative" and that the central bank will "very closely" monitor price developments, an indication that a rate hike in the next quarter is likely. But Trichet did make one concession, saying that rates are now "moderate." He added that he wasn't preparing markets for a "restrictive" policy. "Trichet opted for a less hawkish tone when he said that interest rates are now moderate rather than low," said Kathy Lien, chief strategist at DailyFX.com.

President Yudhoyono Reshuffles Cabinet

After months of continued pressure by political parties and the media that the President reshuffle his cabinet, - and two weeks after the President finally relented to the pressure when, on Monday, 7 May, President Yudhoyono announced a limited Cabinet shake-up. This is the second reshuffle following the first in December 2005, when the President was forced to change his economic team in the wake of government's slapping a 100 percent increase in fuel prices at the pumps, which resulted in spiraling prices nation-wide, and ensuing strong protests from the people.

This time around, the reasons for immediate change were cited as: slow investments in the real sector; a stagnant industrial sector; increased unemployment and lay-offs; and increased number of poor, despite much improved macro-economic performance, namely a stable Rupiah, decreased inflation rate, and a spectacular growth in Jakarta's share market.

Industry players plead for government aid: What have you done for ...

Many operators of tourist establishments in Lebanon are furious with the government over what they say has been a pattern of neglect of a key moneymaker for the country. They complain that the government has dragged its feet in providing help for tourism, even as the sector sees closures on a regular basis. They also argue that the government's pledges of financial support are meager when compared to the number of jobs that have been lost - and the number of Lebanese who have emigrated."We were invited by the government to invest in the sector but we were led astray," said Jean Beyrouthy, secretary general of the Touristic Federation. After the summer 2006 war with Israel, the government made a number of proposals to help the sector recover from the conflict. But according to industry insiders, the sector has not received a penny of government support to date.

West Palm Beach, FL (AHN) - Two college football programs were rocked this weekend with players getting arrested which might jeopardize their future with the schools. The University of Illinois incident involved sophomore wide receivers Jody Ellis and Derrick McPhearson. AP reported the two were in a traffic accident on Friday and police found stolen property in their car's trunk while investigating the crash.

Police in Champaign, Illinois could not verify that report but the school's website did confirm the arrest.

Ron Zook, the team's head coach, later released a statement saying the two players were suspended indefinitely from the club.

UK voices concern at Iran 'sabre-rattling'

Britain said yesterday it was concerned at Iranian "sabre-rattling" about possibly putting captured British naval personnel on trial and for the first time voiced regret that the incident had occurred.

Iran's ambassador to Moscow was quoted as saying the 15 Britons captured eight days ago may face trial for illegally entering the Islamic Republic's territorial waters. But he later denied having made the comments, Iran's IRNA news agency said.

Britain insists the sailors were seized in Iraqi waters and Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett said such talk worried her.

"Obviously, I am concerned. It is not the first person to have made sabre-rattling noises," she told reporters after a European Union foreign ministers' meeting in Germany.

But she struck a conciliatory note when asked by an Iranian television reporter if she had a message for Iran, saying: "The message I want to send is I think everyone regrets that this position has arisen.

Lawmakers Say Proposed Change in Auto Insurance Necessary

Mar. 19--Lawmakers are considering a change to Colorado's auto insurance system that critics say could cost consumers money but proponents are hailing as necessary aid to medical providers. Senate Bill 193 would require all motorists to have coverage of $25,000 in health benefits and $25,000 in rehabilitation. Proponents say the bill, sponsored by Sen. Lois Tochtrop, D-Thornton, is necessary because trauma and other medical providers are losing money under the state's three-year-old tort insurance system. The state's old personal injury protection insurance covered drivers who were hurt in an accident, regardless of whose fault it was. Each insurance company took care of its own client's costs.

But since that coverage became optional in 2003, drivers who don't have it have suffered huge bills.

Clothing with a conscience Dressing 'cruelty-free' doesn't have to mean sacrificing style

North of Boston image consultant Ginger Burr makes a silent statement every morning while getting dressed for work - her stylish wardrobe is 100 percent vegan.

What's vegan, you ask? Veganism is the practice of not eating meat, fish, eggs or dairy products - anything from an animal. And most people who follow the practice - who are known vegans - typically shun clothing made from animal byproducts, including leather, wool, cashmere, suede, shearling, down, silk and fur because they believe the animals are treated inhumanely.

"Veganism is more than what you eat, it is a personal philosophy of living a life of compassion toward all living beings," Burr said. "Sure, it takes a little extra thought and effort. But as my mother has always said, anything worth doing is worth doing well."

Burr, who hasn't eaten red meat in 25 years, decided to go vegan roughly a year-and-a-half ago after reading about what she considered to be cruel treatment of animals in the dairy industry.

Separating politics from pursuit of justice

Former Attorney General John Ashcroft had a standard spiel for new U.S. attorneys: "You have to leave politics at the door to do this job properly."

Maintaining that independence, without fear of repercussions, is the bedrock principle at stake in the controversy over the firings of eight U.S. attorneys. As the top law enforcement official in each of their jurisdictions, these federal prosecutors have the power to destroy reputations, careers and even lives.

They're political appointees, but they're supposed to follow the evidence wherever it leads, without fear or favor. While presidents have the power to remove them for any reason, tradition holds that prosecutors should stay on the job unless they're corrupt or incompetent.

When Democrat Bill Clinton became president, he fired all but one of the U.S.

Virtual racing games linked to risk taking

WASHINGTON: Psychologists have taken the "media priming" effects of popular video console and PC-based games on the road, finding that virtual racing seems to lead to aggressive driving and a propensity for risk taking. Extending prior findings on how aggressive virtual-shooter games increase aggression-related thoughts, feelings and behaviors, researchers at Munich's Ludwig-Maximilians University and the Allianz Center for Technology found that of 198 men and women, those who play more virtual car-racing games were more likely to report that they drive aggressively and get in accidents. Less frequent virtual racing was associated with more cautious driving. According to this press release issued by EurekAlert, the findings appear in the March issue of the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied, which is published by the American Psychological Association.

Equity Platform for Investment Communication — what we call EPIC — is a tool that allows our entire global team of analysts and fund managers to maintain communication on an ongoing basis.

If any of our analysts anywhere in the globe has made a company visit or has prepared earnings forecasts for a company, this is captured in EPIC and automatically relayed to the entire investment team around the world. EPIC also aids the fund manager by automatically generating earnings forecasts based on assumptions, and capturing the consensus market view on a particular stock or company, so that he can evaluate what is factored into the current market price of the company.

I handled 9/11 from A to Z: Qaida No. 3

WASHINGTON: They called him the "Forrest Gump of terrorism" for his involvement in many terrorist acts and plans across the world going back to the mid-1990s. At a hearing in Guantanamo Bay last week, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed showed the moniker was well deserved, owning up his role in 31 terrorist plots, including 9/11, the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993, and a host of plots and plans in between.

In a rambling, disjointed statement at a military hearing, the most coherent sentence the man initialed as KSM said was "I was responsible for the 9/11 operation, from A to Z." He expressed some regret over the incident ("I'm not happy that 3,000 been killed in America. I feel sorry even. I don't like to kill children and the kids") but rationalized it later saying, "The language of war is victims."

Among his involvement in many plots was one in which he said there was "surveying and financing for the destruction of the Israeli Embassy in India, Azerbaijan, the Philippines and Australia." There were also assassination plots against Presidents Clinton and Carter, and the attempt on the life of Pakistani's military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

Asbury Automotive Turns Five on the NYSE: Best of Times, Worst of ...

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity . . .

- Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

Asbury turns 5 on NYSE Tuesday, Asbury Automotive (ABG) celebrated its 5 year anniversary as a publicly traded company. To go public simply means anyone that wants can buy a piece of ownership in the company (you, me, even my kid niece or nephews).

To celebrate, management hosted an analyst day where they provided "An Insider's View of Automotive Retailing." Meaning they had real people from the field/regions (not just senior management) talk about a number of the initiatives, processes, and ultimately try to show investors the Asbury culture.
